Of course, Nanai was a sweet and loveable little black cat. Her owner was just a little edgy and uncertain about this whole thing. Nairi was the first person in a very, very long time who knew her secret and one of the only ones to ever accept her in spite of it. It made her unsure how to react.
"It's not so bad," Kashan answered. "It's not this foggy all the time," she answered. "Besides, there are things that have nothing to do with the weather that cause people to settle in different places. Telsey is a city suited to someone like me, that's all."
Some rustling off to the left sounding suspiciously like a struggle made Kashan pause mid thought and frown. That was probably the way. Oooh, she really had a very bad idea about this...
"It's...probably that way." Through a small thatch of trees. A bit off the road...

"Why would you say that?" Naturally acting far too calm in the face of what could be impending doom, he was more curious as to the kind of people that lived in Telsey that would make Kashan say it was suited to her. More winged types, maybe? "I'm sure it's really nice, but I don't know how you get up in the morning to garden or anything if you can't see." Apparently, the whole thing about how it isn't foggy all the time went straight through one ear and out the other. He perked up a bit at the noise, casting a rather serious expression at Kashan. "Might want to stand behind me... then again, if I get impaled, I guess it wouldn't really help."

Anna desperately pulled free as the dark soldier's grip readjusted! Anna rushed away, again moving towards Rafe and the small man holding him. This would not happen! She wouldn't let someone take away her son! She had promised herself, and Rafe, that she would always keep him safe! She would do whatever she had to do to keep him safe.
She just had no idea how she was going to do that. How could she stop all these men, they seemed so calm and professional, too skilled to be easily defeated.
'A song,' she thought. 'That's it, I've got to use a ...'
Suddenly, Anna fell from a blow from behind! The dark soldier stood over her as Anna looked up. It looked like the dark soldier was about to deliver the killing blow to her, and she had no idea how to stop him!

Kirithis moved quickly from the mounted man's blade, swift and keen on surviving this encounter. So many sounds, so many sensations. Kirithis was being very careful not to die at the moment, and she would do her best to save those who were being attacked. Although, three to one, with two hanging in the balance.. The assassin was going to have to pull off a miracle to pull it off single-handedly.. Sadly, she was fresh out of miracles.
Again, the woman seemed in the most preeminent danger, aside from herself, and Kirithis didn't see enough time to think. No window of opportunity, just a second to react. She ran towards Anna and the man who seemed so intent on killing her. His weapon was raised high, ready to kill the woman on the ground.. That left his sides, legs, and his head open, but only if she struck at the exact moment and only if she didn't mess up. She sprang into the air, a flash of black and red, sending another throwing knife at him. It was aimed for that special place between the collarbones and the sternum, just south of the throat.. A successful shot there, if not fatal, would at least keep him down..

Kashan sighed softly. Sometimes Nairi heard only what he wanted to hear and everything else was secondary. Not to mention his valiant 'I'll protect you' was a little weak and didn't make her feel very confident about this whole rescue operation at all. "If you get reckless and my cat gets killed, I'll be pissed," she said before the pair emerged on the scene from behind the horse-mounted paladin...
Hearing their casually toned voices, he turned a look over his shoulder, eyes widened slightly in surprise. They didn't look like much of a rescue party but if they were headed towards Telsey they were as much an enemy as any other, right? He didn't make any immediate move though, wary.
The large man's armor was in the way of any killing blow once again--but Kirithis's blow did send him pinwheeling backwards, gasping for breath. "Bitch!" he hissed, though it was more of a coughing sound as he tried to get wind back into his lungs. He was distracted from Anna for the moment though and tightened his grip on his sword, murder in his eyes. He was aparently intent on rending Kirithis in two with the weapon.
The small man, meanwhile seemed intent to assist as things were really not going as easily as planned. He held the baby in one arm a bit awkwardly as he chanted under his breath and with one final declaration...
...about a hundred rabbits suddenly appeared in the middle of the battle! What in Edarin??!
"Luny, you moron!" the paladin hissed, shooting his gaze away from Kashan and Nairi a moment to glare at the man as if he were completely incompetent.
"It's not my fault!" Luny insisted. "I was trying to summon a hundred weyres! My pronunciation must have been off...it must have sounded like hares. But I...I think they're rabid! ...maybe."

It wasn't part of Nairi's nature to strike someone who wasn't looking, especially if that someone was being bewildered by a swarm of suddenly conjured rabbits. In fact, much to Kashan's probable dismay, the swordsman seemed a bit enchanted by them as well. How often did you see so many rabbits in such a small place, anyway? He blinked, standing there, then blinked some more, apparently unphased by the danger of men and armored. Even with the shrill, biting voice of his own blade needling into his mind, it was so easy to be distracted.
"This doesn't look very dangerous to me," he remarked to his friend and romantic interest in a soft voice. "I mean, sure, some of them have weapons, and it seems like there may be a struggle (he couldn't see so well around the man's horse), but there's also a field full of rabbits. Doesn't that kind of cancel it out?"

Hmmm.. A man with a big sword and a look in his eyes that could kill if he were any sort of magic-user.. Great.
Kirithis heard the two come upon them, saw and felt the presence of the rabbits, but did not dare remove her eyes from the man's own. And even then, she watched the bridge of his nose, careful to listen and sense everything behind her. She was no gambler, and she didn't intend to die now on a gamble.
Not good, not good, not good-! she was thinking, but her face was a mask of apathy. No, not entirely. Her eyes bore a sort of teasing trickery and an edge of steel in them, the sort that dares a person to come at them, yet gives no sign of what is to come. Did she have a plan? Nope, but that didn't mean she couldn't pretend she had one and then play by ear. That had saved her life a few times. Why not now?

Anna desperately crawled away from the dark armored warrior. Rabbits were suddenly everywhere! Where was her son? What were these people doing here? Why were they trying to take her son?
"Please help me!" Anna cried out desperately. "Don't let them take my son!"

"It most certainly does not! Kashan protested from her place somewhat behind Nairi. A horse. Why did there always have to be a horse? She knew it was ridiculous and illogical, but she very much wanted to keep distance between herself and the four-legged kicking grass-gnawing beast. Sure, she should be more concerned about the paladin on his back, she knew she should, but intellect didn't really help the situation any. "You're the one who wanted to be a big hero, so do something" the dark clad woman complained as if she was slightly irritated that she had to be the one to think of it. "If you want a rabbit that badly, you can adopt one AFTER beating the bad guys."
The paladin took the time Nairi was obviously giving him in his distraction to cast a flame spell on his sword. Now he swung the horse around and Kashan instinctively took a little hop backward as the paladin started a charge. "Nairi!"
The swordsman, meanwhile, was ignoring any looks Kirithis was giving him--he charged full-throttle, sword high above his head for what was apparently intended as a death blow. The sword swung heavily down towards the woman...

It was almost frightening how fast he reacted. Nairi's hand had only been dwelling near the hilt, not exactly looking to be pro-active in a battle he knew so little about, but then the Paladin had turned - Kashan was saying something, though he wasn't quite sure what, it all sounded so mixed up and lost in the midst of everything - and he heard it. The sword. It was talking to him, and there was no way he could resist it this time. Not when it spoke of Kashan, his first love ever since the accident that lead him into this damned existence, being in danger. That wouldn't stand with him. Simply couldn't.
For once, the cursed thing was right, and the moment his slender fingers took hold he wondered how he could ever deny it. It was right. He'd have to meet the bastard's charge with his own - he probably wouldn't be expecting such a foolish maneuver, but they'd most likely be run down otherwise. Go for the horse, or if the chance arises, perhaps a chance meeting with one of those oh-so-sweet spots of the human body that don't stop bleeding. A big chance, but it wouldn't be the first time he'd taken it. His feet were like a blur as he began to rush forward, the world little else to him other than muffled voices and the sound of the wind in his ears. This one, first... then they'd all have to die. It was the only way to make sure Kashan was safe.

"Oh sh-" Kirithis had no time to react, flipping backwards and trying to avoid the man's blade as best she could. How many throwing knives did she have left? Not enough. One, maybe. She'd thrown two originally, and then another, and hadn't she loosed the fourth? Either way, she had no time to count them out as she reached for her dagger and dodged to her right, his left.
She slashed at his wrist, wanting to disarm him without tasting his blade. Adrenaline rushed through her and she couldn't help but panic a little. As soon as she had begun to panic, however, she swallowed it down and moved quickly away, on her guard but wanting to remain as far away from the man with the big sword as she could.

Anna quickly stumbled toward the small, incompetent, Summoner. He was the one holding her son, so he was her priority. He looked at her as though he were actually frightened. If it came down to a fist fight Anna was pretty confident that even she could defeat this one, Luny.
But he was holding her son, she dared not attack him physically. Fortunately, she had other options.
Anna opened her mouth and began to sing her Charm song.
"Hear my voice Little man You have no choice But to obey my command. Return my son Hand him to me My voice is second to none Obey my plea."
With that Anna's voice ringing in his head, Lunarias slowly stepped towards her, holding Rafe out gently for her to take.

The swordsman's blow was successfully deflected, but the way his armored forearm crunched into Kirithis's shoulder was going to be a nuisance for the next few days and probably hard to move at least for the next few hours.
A sickening crunch and a neigh signified that Nairi's sword managed to slice the horse's side--and a curse said the paladin's left shin had seen a better day or two though no major damage was wrought...still, Nairi had earned some singed hair and a light burn on his cheek from coming so close to the flaming sword. Concentration broken thanks to the pain, the flame from the sword dimmed though--that was promising.
Kashan didn't think of herself as a coward but she was really resisting the urge to hide behind the nearest tree and pray that Nairi survived. She could maybe figure out how to patch him up if needed, but that didn't mean she'd be any use in a fight. She had a sword. She knew how to use it about well enough to...uh...not cut herself and MAYBE get lucky. She could fend off a common bandit, but she didn't stand a chance against a trained warrior. Her eyes darted around the scene. Wasn't there ANYTHING she could do to help? At the moment it certainly didn't look like it.
Anna's spell worked, but was just as quickly broken by a deep voice declaring, "You incompetent fools!" And the shed beside Anna's poor house bursting into flame. Dramatic entrance anyone?
Luny startled, yelped slightly, and grabbed Rafe back to his chest just in time for a wall of flame to rise up between himself and anna. It wove around--taking out a few helpless bunnies, cut between Kirithis and the swordsman, and the paladin needed no further prompting before declaring. "Venotius is right. We have what we want. Retreat," and swinging the small man up in front of him on the saddle.
The swordsman cursed and ran after them, clutching his wrist.
If anyone wanted to go after them, they were going to have a very angry old cleric of Danai to deal with...and a field full of flames...

And the gods knew Kirithis wanted to go after them.. But what could she do? Her shoulder felt like it was on fire already, why make the rest of her match? She cursed under her breath as she held her shoulder, thankful for her armor, but wishing she had stronger armor at the same time. If she had had stronger armor, she wouldn't be in pain now. Damn it!
"Cowards!" she yelled after them, eyes aflame with anger and a bit of self-hatred for being so stupid to get injured in the first place. She turned towards Anna. "Are you hurt physically?"

His first instinct was, of course, to give chase, but then the blade spoke, the voice of the deceiver like a poisonous mist that curled around his form and slipped in through his ears, breathed in through his nostrils, completely inhaled...
Follow them? But why? There's still perfectly good targets here. They want to hurt Kashan, don't you know that, foolish boy? Here I thought you cared about her; wanted to protect her. If I was wrong, by all means, follow them.
Nairi whipped around to face Kirithis and Anna, unable to hear what they were saying. His heartbeat was like a thunderous drum, and the wind was almost deafening. The only thing that could penetrate was the sword, and at the moment, that felt about right. He tilted his neck to the side, felt a faint "pop" there, and wiped the soot from his cheek. The reddened flesh below it hurt, but he hardly cared about that right now... he seemed only concerned about closing the distance between himself and the two women, weapon held at the ready. His slow footsteps, those of a thoughtful predator, brought him ever closer to them.
