The day was warm and beautiful, Delavo carried his father's sword in it's sheathe at his side, but combat was the furthest thing from his mind. Delavo watched as the young woman he loved, Kiana, led him to a clearing in the woods, carrying a picnic basket in her hands.
Her lovely, beautiful hands, for a lovely, beautiful young woman. Kiana had long ago captured Delavo's heart. Though he had long thought it impossible for anyone to do so after his father's death. Delavo hadn't searched for love, but when Kiana's family brought her to Telsey, he had indeed found it. He had pursued her, and been impressed by her resistance to him, a resistance he had not encountered much of before. However, Kiana had won his heart more effectively than any before, and she knew she had because she was a Psyon, with the born ability to read the emotions of anyone she touched. That was why her family had brought her to Telsey.
Now Delavo was engaged to marry her, to live in the home he had grown up in, the home left to him after his mother's death. A death that was dragged out by her cruel illness. He himself may not have survived the grief had it not been for Kiana. Her love for him had saved him from losing himself in grief.
A grief that was behind him now, as he looked only to the future, a future to be shared with the woman who now accompanied him for a surprise picnic.
"Stop looking at me like that," Kiana ordered him teasingly. "Our food will get cold."
"I can live with that," Delavo said with a cocky smile. "If something else were to heat up."
Kiana smiled at him coyly. "There will be plenty of time for that later," she said.
Kiana spread the picnic blanket then began putting out the food. Stopping only when Delavo gathered her into his arms and kissed her!
"You do have a one-track mind," Kiana whispered.
Suddenly a group of men charged out of the trees, all wearing dark clothes with dark rags hiding their faces. All held swords. Delavo leaped to his feet and drew his sword. But he was far too outnumbered, he deflected several sword blows but was then hit from behind and blacked out!
