i had three questions about the skills portion of the characters. first, i didn't see any official skill list. the class lists include lists of how many skills at each level, and any specific skills the player has to take, but there weren't any generic lists of skills. is the skill list free form, in that the player makes up what skills they want to request?
my other question was, can a player gain additional skills through training, etc beyond the amount offered in their class level? for instance if my level one ranger wanted to add leather working to his skill set, could he train in it to add it, or would he have to wait until he reached level two and request it?
lastly, how high can an individual skill realistically go? is there a point beyond which further advancement in a skill is valueless?
Thank you for your time.

okay, well the first part it seems you've already gotten answered. Edarin's skills are entirely up to the player (within reason of course, i'm not going to go around handing out armageddon skills to level one characters). But basically, the character makes up their own skills for each level. I would say it would be safe to assume in your levelling up that there's probably 4 levels to any one skill: beginner, intermediate, advanced, expert. You can probably squeeze a 'master' level on after expert if you really wanted to, but I think for most people 4 levels of any one skill is wholly sufficient. Since Edarin is player-moderated and/or freeform depending on the thread skills and training don't come into it much. Whether a player opts to level up or not is wholly a matter of personal preference--that said, characters who DO choose to level up will be considered stronger than those who don't obviously. That said, training threads are boring. They're boring for players and boring for moderators and administrators. That's why in making edarin I chose a system of skill approvals instead of actual training because I would rather just let everyone have their fun. Strictly speaking though you are stuck with your number of skills per level and would request your leather working at the next level. There MAY be events and bonuses that will gain you additional skills and items (quizzes, real-time rp's, and other miscellaneous challenges that the admins may choose to run once in a while). We haven't done anything like this yet, but are set up to do so and I'm hoping to start monthly quizzes as soon as we finish the bits of the site that are still incomplete (military, primarily). So if you want additional goodies keep your eyes open for these things. There will be set "mystery" prizes, and additional skill slots may be in there some month. (of course, another month you may just get rotten fruit. Gotta keep you on your toes. ) Okay, I think I answered all your questions--albeit out of order and through lots of babbling. Hope that helps. If not, I'd be glad to clarify.

Just figured that it should be mentioned that while there are no GM-run training threads, but you can certainly RP the learning process. Logically, you're not just going to suddenly say "Hey! I know leather working now!" but instead of having it as a primary focus, it could just be something going on between adventures (hey, these people have lives, right? ). Basically, you won't really be able to do anything with the skill until you go up a level and receive it, but you can set your char on the path to it. Or something like that.
