This thread shall grow as I think up questions.
1. How many characters may I play?
Players may have as many characters as they feel they can keep track of but bear in mind that each character must be registered individually and have their own account.
2. I know a link to my character's journal has to be put in my signature. How do I do that?
First, make sure you're logged in. Click the "profile" link at the top of the page. Next click "modify profile". Scroll down to "personal information" and you will see a text box labeled "signature". Insert the URL there. You can simply paste it if you'd like, the boards will automatically make it an active link. Signatures do not permit html, but DO permit UBBC. For information on convenient UBBC codes that you might choose to make use of, Go To This Tutorial.
3. What is a 'skin' and how do I change it?
A skin is a set of forum colors that modifies the look of the board to suit your preferences. Currently, our forums have four to choose from. The default skin, new users will note, is black and brown. This skin is referred to in your profile as "earthy". There are also three other skins you may prefer. To change your skin, click the profile link at the top of the page. Next click "modify profile". Scroll down to "account preferences". The last option in that section is "select skin". Choose the skin you want and save your changes.
4. I've read the level descriptions for my chosen class but envisioned something slightly different for my character. Is it okay to not adhere strictly to these descriptions?
The class level descriptions are there as a guideline, not a rule. While skill numbers and required skills cannot be altered, the rest is there to give you a general idea and is not cast in stone. We understand that characters evolve in their own way and few, if any will be adhering strictly to the guidelines set forth. Just make sure to have your new levels and skills approved by an Admin or CDA.
5. When I post, there's a button for spell check. Does it really work?
Yes! I was only too pleased to discover when I created these forums that they have a spell-checker and that it does, in fact, function properly unlike many other boards I've been at where the spell checker appears to only have a vocabulary of some fifty words. In fact, I'm using it on this very post. Wonderful, isn't it?
6. With the mechanic class in play, it seems that some 'modern conveniences' may be available that would not be available in an ordinary fantasy game. What are they?
Exactly, as we have the mechanic (inventor) class here at Edarin, we are able to get away with all kinds of things that would be considered non-standard in another game. While gunpowder DOES NOT EXIST in Edarin, that does not mean the land is without modern conveniences. They are, as follows:
Indoor Plumbing: while perhaps not existing in some small backwater villages, indoor plumbing is a relatively new invention (the past 10-20 years) that has spread rapidly through Edarin's lands and all major cities have it.
Penicillin: not the work of mechanics, but alchemists, medical science has taken a great leap with the discovery of rudimentary antibiotics.
7. When I post in the OOC Forums, my post count does not go up, why?
I have disabled post counts in the all ooc forums/quest forums/character info forums. This prevents players from racking up a huge number of posts with very little actual in character play. It saves the adminstrators the trouble of checking to see if most of your posts are indeed in character when you ask for a new skill level. Your post count will represent your in character posts only to make things go more smoothly for us in the long run. This is not to discourage you from OOC posting, it just makes things easier on everyone involving the levelling system.
8. Why can't I register my username with a space?
That is one of the little quirks of proboards that I can do nothing about. Usernames cannot have spaces and any capital letters will automatically be lower cased. While your username can't be altered, your display name can. By going into your profile, you can alter what other players see your name as when you post. This CAN have spaces and capital letters, which ought to keep everyone happy enough.
9. My custom avatar is too large/too small how do I fix it?
Avatars will automatically pull up at 65x65 pixels if nothing is filled in for height and width. You don't need to resize your avatar in an image editing program, but fill in the height and width as 100 or lower to size it as you'd like it to appear. If your avatar is not a perfect square, it may take some trial and error to get it to look right.
