Unique to the mostly isolated Dracon culture, this race has no word for 'traveler' or 'wanderer' in their ancient tongue. What they do have is the word 'Shon'hai' which translates loosely as 'pilgrim'. The word is used part and parcel with adventurer to these people. It refers to someone who goes on a long journey for a noble cause with the intent of eventually returning home.
So it is that the Shon'hai tavern is an establishment catering specifically to those foreign merchants who need a place to spend a night or two while doing business in town.
Run by a dracon named Isashin who's gained a reputation for 'taking in strays' (the phrase Dracon use to derogatorily refer to one who associates openly with humans in non-business dealings), the Shon'hai Tavern is located just off Shiai's main wharf and can be seen from approximately five miles out to sea even through Xsenzar's often all encompassing fog.
A momentous structure of slate brick that rises four stories, the Shon'hai dominates the landscape for a mile in any direction. A monument to practicality over beauty, this tavern still boasts twin dragons carved of rose crystal to either side of its entryway--the only thing about it most might call 'beautiful' from the outside. Built in typical dracon style with high, flat ceilings and tall, arched windows, the Shon'hai tries to offer some small comforts to foreigners. While everything is dracon-sized and ornately carved stone, a room off to one side of the main bar offers smaller human-sized wood tables and chairs, a few sofas and a central stone hearth.
Even if the Shon'hai boasts lodgings and fare for dracon and foreigners alike, the tavern area remains voluntarily segregated. Other than the main bar where all food and drink must be ordered, entering the tavern one sees a firm line seems to be drawn between Dracon and Human which only the serving staff seems wont to pass. A granite stairwell to either side of the main tavern leads upward into the Inn's rooms--as segregated above as below.
While there are no rules or laws stating that Dracon and Human may not co-mingle, the Dracon don't seem to want to, and the humans are too intimidated to beg to differ.
