(ooc: as Enwar currently has no tavern, I am making one here for the purpose of our adventures. Nicolae, feel free, if you so desire, to describe any parts of the tavern that I leave out in this post.)
The Brandy Barrel Tavern & Inn
Ren leaned back in a tarnished oak chair to stretch his long legs and yawned. It was rather boring, he decided, traveling alone.
The Brandy Barrel was a rather nice little place--quaint, with an oaken bar in the rear and a small kitchen. The rooms were smaller than most, but comfortable to someone used to a cleric's cell at the Pyres of Shadowbane. And the help was very...ahem...friendly.
He leaned forward now, pushing a strand of auburn hair from his eyes before stretching with a light yawn, blinking his blue eyes blearily. He wasn't particularly well-rested this morning, but it had been a night well worth losing a little sleep over.
His little trysts seemed to lack something lately, but the young cleric was not one to think to heavily on those matters. "Hm, Oh! I'm sorry!" Ren laughed sheepishly when he noticed the barmaid standing there waiting to take his order. "I'm afraid I was burning the midnight oil last night."
"It's good for a young cleric to study so hard," the older serving woman said to him, but rest is important too. Anyway, what will y'have?"
"Eh heh heh, Yeah, sorry. But you know, without my mentor around I don't know when to stop." That went for any number of Ren's extracurricular and curricular activities. He lacked something in moderation. "Ah, eggs, toast with jam, breakfast ham, some bread, and milk. I'm a growing boy," he said. "I like big breakfasts."
She laughed a little. "You eat like a farm hand," she teased. "Coming right up."
Ah, that made him just a wee bit homesick. That pudgy older woman kind of made him think of his mother. Well, no going back now. He rested his chin on his hand trying to figure out what he'd do with himself today. Maybe a trip to the library--they might have some texts he hadn't read yet. Studying at least was a good way to kill the time.

Nicolae dismounted Shiba and entered the Brandy Barrel Tavern & Inn. He left his staff with Shiba, he left most of his stuff with Shiba, it would be safe with her. And the tavern seemed like a respectable place, besides, it wasn't like Nicolae couldn't take care of himself without his staff.
Besides, he was hungry, and could use a place to stay for the night, even if he couldn't find any work here. He had a few extra ka to spare, but he could always use more.
And if there was a place to find work, it was usually the local tavern and inn.

When Nicolae entered, Ren was all but inhaling a hearty serving of eggs. He paused for breath, looked up to see if someone interesting had entered, and his eyes widened. 'Hey!' he thought. 'I know that guy!'
He swallowed a mouthful, downed it with a swig of milk, and lifted his hand, waving. "Heey! Nicolae! Long time no see!" Well, a few months, at least.
He got up and walked over rather than yelling across the tavern. "Are you meeting someone? If not come sit at my table. We'll catch up over breakfast." Pause. "I was just thinking that I was a little bored and here you are."

Nicolae looked over as Ren approached him. Nicolae smiled politely at Ren. It had been several months since they last parted, after defeating a Yarl. Ren was something of a character, a little difficult to figure out, but a nice enough guy.
Of course it would really be a toss-up as to whether or not Nicolae would get a greeting in himself at this rate.
"Hello, Ren," Nicolae said. "And I would be glad to join you for breakfast."
'Please don't let me regret this,' Nicolae thought to himself as he joined Ren at his table.

Ren smiled amiably, but then he always smiled amiably, and waved a waitress over to take his friend's order. "There's nothing like a hearty breakfast to get the blood flowing," the cleric said--and apparently he meant it as he continued to eat that rather considerable breakfast of his. Well, he was tall, maybe he needed more than the average person? Not that it mattered.
"Donovan has up and left me to run off on a job that is 'too intricate' for someone of my level to be involved in, so I've been left behind to study and entertain myself, but as it turns out I'm not much made for a solitary existence. He said he'd meet me back at the Pyres in two months time, but I've no idea what to do with myself in the meanwhile." He babbled to fill the empty air and as an explanation for what he was doing here alone.
"But that's enough about me," Finally, Ren. Finally. "What brings you to Enwar? Have you run into any of the others in your travels? I hope they're all doing well."

Nicolae took a breath, it was hard to keep up with Ren, but he may as well try. He never had much chance to be sociable growing up, so he may as well try his skills at it now.
If Ren would let him get a word in edgewise.
"I haven't run into any of the others since we parted," Nicolae began. "And as for coming to Enwar it was simply the direction I travelled in. I'm doing what I've always done which is simply looking for more work. And, you say your mentor just left you? Isn't there something you're supposed to be doing? Some sort of study or something like that?"

"Well yes," Ren answered. "But I'm a lowly level 1 apprentice right now and he has other responsibilities. Most jobs he can take me along for, but if it's something too tricky, I apparently have to stay behind." He seemed rather put out by the entire affair. "In the meanwhile I'm left with my books and prayers, and I've already read the books thrice over." He was apparently more studious than one would assume just to look at him. "I've also raided the local library, but they haven't got much of use to me, though I did manage to get my hands on a book on herb lore. I've copied it over to scrolls and returned it already." He sighed heavily.
Yes, Ren, apparently, was bored. "If you're off looking for work, perhaps you wouldn't mind a bit of company for a while? I won't get in the way, cleric's honor!" he said raising a hand. "But I find I'm rather bored and it won't take me much time at all to get to the Pyres from here...two weeks at best." Which left Ren with a month and a half to kill.
"Oh, you know, come to think of it, there are often bodyguard type jobs coming out of the Pyres. If you lack work by the time I have to head back, perhaps we can travel together that way. A lot of clerics often take a paladin or other warrior with them as a guard on their journeys. Not all, but you know, the type...ah, you know, like me, who have trouble harming a fly."
This was very true about Ren. You just couldn't see him doing violence to anyone, at least not on purpose.
As he bantered on, he was rather oblivious to a certain subtle change in the atmosphere of the tavern as the innkeeper--a rather large muscled human, came out of the kitchen and started scanning the room. He looked rather displeased. Two smaller women were near him, apparently trying to calm him--one an elegant woman probably in her mid-thirties with coils of brown hair tumbling down to an hourglass waist, the other a girl of some seventeen years--tallish, but still retaining some youthful freckles across her nose and hair worn in twin braids over bared shoulders.
A scene was about to be caused, that much was rather certain from the look of it--but the group, behind Ren somewhere and therefore out of his line of sight, went totally unnoticed by the cleric.

Nicolae considered the job possibility that Ren suggested as he noticed the large muscled man coming out of the kitchen and looking around the room. Something about the scene seemed rather...familiar to Nicolae. The upset man, two women trying to calm him. Something seemed familiar, like the scene of a play, or story, one would often hear, but Nicolae's mind went blank. What would those stories be about?
He shrugged, it would come to him. In the meantime, he didn't want to be rude to Ren, and found his company pleasant enough, so maybe he would allow Ren to join him.
"I certainly wouldn't mind your company," Nicolae told Ren. "And your suggestion to try the Pyres isn't a bad one. I wouldn't mind a place to settle down for awhile. But what to do until then?"
Nicolae noticed that the muscular man seemed to be looking their direction. He wasn't looking at Nicolae was he? Nicolae had never met that man, or either of those women with him, so why was he...?
Wait a second, he wasn't looking at Nicolae, he was looking at...
"Ren! What did you do?" Nicolae demanded.

Ren blinked at Nicolae's sudden declaration. "Well, that's rather rude," he pouted a little before glancing over his shoulder at where Nicolae's eyes seemed to be pinned.
"CLERIIIC!" The inkeeper bellowed the moment their eyes met and Ren blinked rather owlishly.
"M-mister Ren! Run!" the younger of the two women said, and Ren blinked twice more as the man stalked ominiously toward him. "Oh dear..." he said. "Well, one shouldn't ignore a lady's advice, I suppose," he said, getting quickly to his feet. "If we're to travel together then, I think now would be a wonderful time to start."
He quickly gathered up his paltry belongings and shuffled his way through the crowd, tossing a few ka on the table to pay for his meal. It, however, would probably not be an offering sufficient to calm the man over the soiling of his daughter's pristine reputation--but Ren had no way of knowing of her reputation OR whose daughter she was! He couldn't REALLY be held accountable, right?
