Aubrey shrugged faintly and smiled, staring off at the city in the distance as well. "No need to thank me," he said, finding himself in a state of peacefulness not recently known to him. "After all, you've done so much more for me.. It's my pleasure to be helpful. I hate feeling useless, so.."
He smiled, a soft flush spreading across his cheeks as he looked over at Jaiden, pretty crystal orbs glittering and even daring to lose themselves in those shocking green ones. His heart fluttered, and for a moment, he was concerned that he was going to have a heart-attack or something, unfamiliar with the sensation, before he figured it out and then flushed a little more, returning his gaze to Nemwe.

Aubrey was certainly eager to please, and Jaiden didn't really know what to make of it. How long would they be together, anyway? For a moment there, when the kid couldn't look away and he wasn't trying to, he entertained the notion that maybe Aubrey was thinking the same thing he was. He'd noticed that his pulse had quickened but little else until he turned away, and he found himself almost grateful. What if he had tried to kiss him? Who knows what he would've done, with all the sexual trauma that he's probably experienced in his life? They might've both fallen out of the tree...
He sighed and followed the other's gaze, staring out across the plain. Aubrey was fractured... the kid had to be damaged in ways that he couldn't even start to comprehend, but that only meant that he couldn't act out any of those desires that kept pacing through his head. Would he really be able to handle weeks of this? Months? Has to be bad for my health. Jaiden snickered at the thought and, in a move that he thought bold, reached up to twine a few strands of Aubrey's hair around his fingers and idly play with them. He didn't say anything. Now that they'd done all the work to get up here, he didn't really want to get down just yet.

Aubrey looked a little surprised as Jaiden played with his hair, but didn't make any sign of distaste or fear or even annoyance. No, he just smiled softly, the lightest flush remaining on his cheeks. He was half tempted to rest his head on Jaiden's shoulder, but decided it would be a bad idea because he wasn't sure how ready he was to accept touches even he initiated..
He sighed softly, letting his eyes shut as a gentle breeze blew past them, nothing too strong or even anything to worry about, but refreshing nonetheless. No.. he would worry about where Jaiden stood in his mind later, as well as how he would deal with it. For all he knew, he just had a childish crush on the guy because he happened to be the one to save his life. But, then again.. What if it wasn't some childish crush?
Either way, Aubrey had no idea that his dilemma was about as bad as Jaiden's own, and almost the exact same. How would he handle the near future..?

There was also the whole thing about Aubrey just being a kid. He was pretty sure that several cities had laws against the things he frequently ran through his mind, small visions of personal fantasies that he seemed to relive every time the boy smiled at him. Jeez... I need to get laid, he thought hopelessly, staring up at the darkening sky. Things would probably be a lot less complicated then.
After a while, he could no longer resist the urge to busy his hands further and started to braid those isolated strands, humming to himself as he did so. The longer they took to get to Nemwe the less their chances of him scraping up room fare before the night was out, but... who knows? Being here with the kid - like this - was worth pleading for some centaur sympathy.

It was surprising, but almost not so much so, that Aubrey should giggle at this, smiling and even flushing a little. He liked the feeling of having his hair braided, even if it was just a few strands. A few strands or his whole head, it was comforting to the pretty blonde, always had been, and always would be, if life worked out.
"Hey, Jaiden?" he asked, quiet, but not uncomfortable. "What will we do after Nemwe..? I mean, I don't really have anywhere to go, but I don't want to be a burden, either.." He wanted to ask if he would be allowed to stay with Jaiden, travelling or no (although he certainly liked the idea of travelling with the other), but didn't know how to ask, really.. It was almost sick how cute it was.

It helped his nerves to do this; he had no intention of stopping, having decided ahead of time that he'd press the issue if Aubrey wanted him to. For Jaiden, it was a way too get close to him - blow off some of that internal pressure - without making it worse. He continued, branching off to more strands now. "Mm... what? Oh. Not really sure..."
He looked past the boy's shoulder at the city looming in the distance, wondering the same thing. They'd have to head north, through Moonhaven (which would be an interesting experience) and then, eventually, they'd make it back to Arbendau, and... well, what? They'd part ways? Would they even make it that far? "Well, it's not like I've got a place of my own or anything. I guess I could help you get on your feet, learn a trade skill or something that you can support yourself. After that... well, we'll just have to see, I guess."

Aubrey seemed content as Jaiden braided his hair, and had humans been able to purr like the felines many adored, he likely would have been purring up a storm. However, humans could not, and so he did not. Instead, he leaned into the touch, not making more contact, but giving Jaiden better access to his hair..
"Thank you," he said, smiling as he stared at the city.
[crap post.. @_@ Will post for Syn tomorrow if I can]

Once the Diviner was sufficiently wound down, he felt rather relaxed... a little too much, if you asked him. While it was certainly nice to be sitting up here with Aubrey, taking in the sights, having a moment to rest that wasn't of neccessity, Jaiden didn't cherish the idea of falling asleep in a tree. He cleared his throat lightly and dropped the locks he was working on.
"We should really get going, kid. I adore you for bringing me up here, but we've used up enough of our daylight I think. C'mon." He prodded the other gently, trying to get him into action. There was no way he was climbing down first.

Aubrey caught onto this easily, and smiled, flushing softly. "Okay," he said. His eyes sparkled with something of knowing that Jaiden wasn't keen about taking the trip down. "Just follow me, and you should be fine. I can even go slow if you want..?"
He was pretty sure Jaiden would catch on fast enough, but he would also have to be looking down to watch Aubrey, and they weren't very close to the ground. Closer than the treetop, yes, but not close enough to have made this easy on the poor Diviner. At any rate, Aubrey was more than willing to help.

Despite his initial displeasure at the prospect of climbing down, Jaiden managed it easily enough and did so without too much complaining. Just happy to have his feet back on the ground regardless, he collected his belongings from the base of the tree and ruffled the kid's hair for seemingly no other reason than that he could. Maybe it was his weird way of saying thanks?
The thought of another long walk didn't excited him much, but the idea of a proper bed did... assuming they had proper beds out here in centaur land. What did centaurs sleep in, anyway? A pondrous expression came over him and it took a few moments to snap out of it, starting to walk. "It'll be real late by the time we get there... I guess at this point we have to count on some hospitality, because while reading the future might be a prized and important ability, it takes people a while to warm up some times." He flashed a sheepish grin at Aubrey.
(Feel free to just skip forward to Nemwe if you want, we've done plenty of "walking along" scenes. Also, there's no centaur characters yet. Since you're the admin for this place, do you want to handle the centaur NPCness?)
