"I'm just glad we didn't find the hand it was once attached to," Eldarion answered. It wasn't that he was squeamish per say, but if he didn't have to see bits and pieces of dead Zhoan he would be all the happier for it.
Dark, webbed caves like this...he couldn't say he was at ease in this sort of place, but he knew he could rely on Yago to cause a fuss and riot if something happened outside or he was gone too long. "Let's just make quick work of it. I much prefer the sunshine to this dank nest."

(ooc: sorry for the delay, class work's been hectic and my computer wasnt displaying updates unless i loged in. strange i know, but now i'm back)
Duello nodded and bagged the dagger. as they went through the cattacomb of webbing he would periodicly cut open a small portion of the walls to extract some scrap or item caught in the sticky cords. he eventualy located a leather cloak, that was somewhat tattered at the bottom, two more throwing knives which matched the first, and a wool blanket with a few sparse holes. they also found a small, crudely fasioned bracelet, the strap was broken but the charm was carved into a distinctive flower and was made of silver. the back of the charm had the letters "LN" scratched into it. Duello showed this to Eldarion, the bracelet seemed sized for a child.
"perhaps someone back in town will know whose this was." he said. then continued forward. when they reached the end of the cave they saw what appeared to be a great cavernous room, which was dominated at its center by a bulb-like mass of webbing thicker than anywhere else in the nest. Duello studied it a moment then turned to Eldarion.
"the monstrosities eggs." he said "we should end this abominations line, lest one of these should grow to be so dangerous."

(Don't sweat it. I'll extend the same apologies. Work was very, very busy this past week or so and by the time I got home I didn't have the mental capacity to read The Cat in the Hat, let alone put actual sentences together into a post.)
Eldarion's dark eyes saddened a bit at the child's bracelet and his fingers ran over the engraving for an instant before shaking off the moment. He was a gentle soul really, to think that a child should have to suffer was even a worse blow than that an adult did. Regardless, there was nothing to be done for the dead now. He nodded. "Not much of a consolation, but at least the living might get some closure from it."
Soon enough they arrived at the beasts nest and Eldarion's grip on his claymore firmed, ready to strike. "These Crimsha are a menace to the Lunar would. I'd be rid of them all if it were possible. But this nest will make for a decent start." He stepped forward, lifted the claymore, and sliced hard into the mass...

the mighty blade was forged to sheer through armor and break the legs of charging horses, but as it ripped through the strands of webbing its momentum was slowed and caught and finally halted two thirds of the way through the sweep.
the internal pressure of the egg sack burst outward an instant later, ripping around the blade and freeing it as hundreds of small round balls spilled across the ground. each seemed to have a thin membrane for a surface, and contained a tiny, half developed spider. the balls themselves were perhaps two inches in diameter and slightly sticky so that once they hit the floor they didn't roll far, and were soon covered in dirt.
Duello stepped forward to examine the scene. with his dagger he carefully cut open one of the eggs, allowing the contents to spill onto the floor so he could see it. as he observed the eggs he spoke to Eldarion.
"I'm not certain that any other living elf has ever had the opportunity to see this. an unborn crimsha, the inside of their egg sack and eggs." he studied it for a few moments longer before putting his dagger into the unborn spiders back.
"lets see to it that these never give anyone else the opportunity. shall we?" he said and stood, crushing a ball under his boot. he stepped again, crushing two more.

"I'd count them lucky in that," Eldarion answered, determining he was wiping his blade clean the moment they got out of here. "The scent alone is enough to kill a man's appetite for days." Regardless, what must be done must be done. He lifted his blade and sliced it across the ground taking out three at a time. The sooner they got this finished with the better off they would be.
"The first thing I do when I get back to the Grand is head straight for the river to bathe," he said. "I imagine Yago will snort at me in disgust the moment I mount him." Dirty work, this Crimsha hunting.

Duello rolled his eyes and went on smashing the eggs. it was long dirty work, but he didnt mind that. as each egg crushed under his foot he heard the satisfying pop as its contents exploded out onto the floor.
when it was finished he looked around. "i dont think we'll find anything else." he said and turned toward the door. "we should probably head back toward the grand."

Well, Eldarion didn't care for the stink of Crimsha blood, unborn Crimsha blood either and he'd be glad to be rid of it. Gladder still to be out of the beast's lair. "Aa," he answered. "Then let's be on our way," he said, sheathing his blade and making a mental note to pull out a cleaning rag to give it a cursory wipe down while they rode.
"That, I do believe, is the best idea I've heard all day," he answered, making his way out of the ruined nest. He would likely be on edge until they were back safe and sound and collecting their fee, but for all intents and purposes it seemed at this point a job well done--and a job that could have gone considerably worse.

(OOC: 18 credits in one semester might have been a mistake. i just got out of midterms, still a little fried. unfortunately most of my writing ability has been getting dumped into memoir class and spec fiction.)
Duello nodded and began following the webbed corridor back toward the entrance. when they stepped out into the evening sun Attanis trotted up to him and butted it's head into his shoulder affectionately. he pat the horse on the neck and prepaired to mount up. stowing his bow he lept and swung onto the horse's back. He extended his hand to Eldarion.
"it's been an honor to work with you, Eldarion." he said.

"The honor has been all mine," Eldarion answered with a faint bow of the head before mounting Yago, who snorted a little at his current state--seeming to tell the man he smelled terrible. "I've learned much in this little adventure. As a paladin, I've a long way to go--having known it and having experienced it are not the same. Perhaps we will ride together again sometime. I will look forward to the chance," he said, settling onto Yago's haffon and digging a rag out of one of his pockets. "I feel much relieved as well, that at least this particular nest of crimsha won't cause the peoples of the Lunar Wood any further trouble."
